Saint Barthélemy (also known as: Saint-Barth, St. Barts, or St. Barths)
GETTING THERE
St. Barths (SBH) is best reached by plane from St. Martin’s Princess Juliana airport (SXM). You will probably need to book your flight from SXM-SBH separately after booking your flight to St. Martin. There are 2 airlines with scheduled flights: St. Barth Commuter and Winair. Be sure to read their websites carefully for instructions on how to transfer, and how much time to allow between flights. We recommend flying as the fastest option, but there are ferries available as well.
STAYING THERE
We encourage you to come for several days. St. Barths is a beautiful and special place (and a little out of the way) so make the most of your trip! We will arrive on Saturday, June 4 and hope to see you for several days leading up to the big event on June 11. Fortunately, June is after the peak-season, thereby offering the best rates.
LeVillage pool overlooking St. Jean Bay
Most of the wedding activities will be in and around the town of St. Jean. We will be staying at Hotel LeVillage on the side of a hill overlooking St. Jean Bay.
Other hotel options in St. Jean include Tom Beach, Emeraude Plage, and Eden Rock, which are all within walking distance of Hotel LeVillage, the wedding ceremony and reception, restaurants, shopping, and, of course, one of the island's lively beaches, St. Jean Bay. Space is limited, so early reservations are strongly recommended!
VILLA RENTALS
Villas are another fun option. The main villa rental agencies are Sibarth and Wimco. If you want to stay near us and the wedding festivities, search the St. Jean area.
Getting around
A little rental car is recommended for getting around and exploring St. Barths' beautiful hillsides, beaches and charming towns. Since our wedding festivities take place after peak-season, not only are room rates lower, some hotels offer free little rental cars with a minimum stay. If you stay in St. Jean you will be within walking distance of the wedding ceremony and reception, St. Jean Bay beach, shopping and other attractions. Taxis are also available, but require calling in advance and some planning.
Having Fun
St. Barth’s has many beautiful beaches, and it is fun to explore different ones each day. Water sport activities, such as snorkeling, sailing or motorized sports may be organized in various places, and there are a couple of beautiful hikes. When you arrive at SBH, you will see a wall of free, helpful magazines and guidebooks. Your hotel will also be a good source of information, or these websites: Access St. Barths, St. Barths Online. Lunch at a beach-side restaurant such as Tom Beach, Isle de France or Nikki Beach, with a bottle of rosé, is a favorite St. Barth’s pastime. We will post in this section which restaurant we are going to each night, so that anyone who wishes may also book a reservation, for somewhat spontaneous gatherings each night.
Attire
St. Barth’s is quite hot and humid. You will probably be most comfortable in a single layer of light clothing, even at night.
It is perfectly acceptable to spend the entire day in a bathing suit and cover-up, even in town, at a restaurant or at the grocery story.
Night times, men usually wear lightweight long pants and a collared shirt to dinner at the fancy places, and women dresses or other nice attire, and for the more casual places, shorts and t-shirt are fine. Keep in mind that most restaurants on the island are open-air; there are only a few air-conditioned options.
The wedding will be on the lawn overlooking the beach at Eden Rock. The reception following will be at the Sand Bar at Eden Rock, a covered, open air, beachside restaurant. Dancing will take place both on the dance floor and on the sand after dinner. Please wear whatever will make you feel both comfortable and celebratory. For men, for example, something like linen or lightweight pants and short or long-sleeved lightweight shirt, and for women, a nice dress or pants outfit. In other words, wedding-appropriate, but keeping in mind it is at the beach.
